Much to Jonah's disgust, he has been put on indefinite leave from the police service on the advice of Occupational Health. They deemed that it was too risky for someone with his predisposition to respiratory disease to be out and about in the community, interviewing suspects and visiting crime scenes, or even mixing with his colleagues who will have been doing those things. Needless to say, he is not a happy bunny!
We're on standby to do Stan and Sylvia's shopping for them, but Stan says he's not giving up coming over here to care for his birds. I can't see that he's at much risk so long as he doesn't use the bus, so I'm insisting that one of us goes and collects him in the car. I'm sure it's healthier for him to keep up with his hobby rather than just staying at home all day.
Churches are discussing whether to cancel services or just to encourage older people to stay away. I suppose Stan will probably be stood down as a Local Preacher, but no news from the circuit so far and I don't think he'll want to do it voluntarily.
It's just so difficult to foresee where we're going at the moment. How long will it be before we're all staying at home apart from dashes out to collect provisions? Peter, Jonah and I are very grateful for our safe public-sector pensions - assuming that we can be sure that they really are safe!
