Sunday again, and we certainly needed a day of rest after all the activity of last week. Mel and Q were on a rest day too. They both went to visit Wayne in hospital, much to the delight not only of Wayne but of the staff and other patients too. Barbara asked how Q got her name. I think she was expecting it to be something to do with how quick she is at chasing criminals (Pretty Damn' Quick - get it?) but it turned out to be something quite different.
Police dog litters are each given a letter of the alphabet and all the pups are given names that begin with that letter. Q was one of the "A" litter and originally her name was Arrow, which seems like quite a good name for a police dog to me. However, her puppy walker family had a little girl in it who insisted that Arow wa a boy's name. She decided to re-name her Queen Isadora Annabella Florence, which got shortened to Queenie and then to Q. Mel reckons that the girl's father was a bit of a wag and thought it was clever - as well as Queenie being a bit of a girly name for a tough police dog.
Q has two brothers from her litter, who are also police dogs. They're called Art and Alfie.
