Home > Stage 3 > Two-dimensional spatial structure > Quad match
2D shapes: Classify two-dimensional shapes and describe their properties
Recognise that triangles and quadrilaterals can be classified in more than one way (Reasons about spatial relations)
Compare side and angle properties of triangles and quadrilaterals using measurement and symmetry
Investigate the symmetry properties (line and rotational) of quadrilaterals
Identify regular and irregular polygons
Outdoor playing area
Print and cut out Quad match (ensure you print enough copies for there to be one card per student)
Mark a playing area
The aim of this activity is to find a peer / group of peers with two or more cards that relate to each other.
Teacher gives each student a playing card.
Teacher calls out a locomotor skill for students to use to move around marked space.
When whistle is blown students must move to find a student/s with a related card.
Students record their cards in their workbook.
Challenge students to explain their thinking.
Teacher collects playing cards and redistributes to play again, naming different locomotor skills each time.
Students could draw their own shapes.
Change the locomotor movement.
Add additional shapes.
