Represent numbers on a line
Sequence numbers and arrange them on a line by considering the order and size of those numbers
Indoor playing area
Student workbooks or individual whiteboards
Pencil or marker per student
Teacher selects a student to stand at front of room with back to board
Teacher writes a number between 0 - 100 on the board, ensuring class can see number but selected student cannot.
Students using physically active movements to describe if a number is 'greater than' or 'less than' a stated number.
Teacher writes number on the board and informs student the number is between 0 and 100.
Student, at front of the room, with back to the board, states a number.
Students respond by informing the student if the stated number is greater than or less than using physically active movements:
Greater than - Star jumps
Less than - Squats
Once number is successfully stated, teacher selects another student and writes a new number on the board.
Play continues following same steps above.
Teacher may choose to record numbers guessed on the board, as a follow-up task students place the numbers on an empty number line in ascending or descending order.
Play with 3 digit numbers
Play with 4 digit numbers
Play with fractions, decimals or percentages
Reduce amount of possible numbers by playing 0 - 50.
Vary the greater than and less than movements
