Position: Use directional language and describe routes with grid maps
Use a given grid map and compass directions (N, S, E, W) to plan, describe and show a route from one location to another
Indoor or outdoor playing area
Marker cones
N, S, E, W signs
Setup square playing area and mark each corner N, S, E, W
Players move around a playing area before racing to a corner based on the direction given.
Students run around the area.
On the teacher’s signal, one direction will be given (N, S, E, W)
Students race to the appropriate corner.
Last player/s to arrive at the correct corner is out.
Continue play until only one player is left.
Include NE, NW, SE, SW
Give clues rather than directions.
Vary the locomotor movements.
Set an additional action to complete at the destination (for example, jumping jacks, high knees, running on the spot).
