Item cards
Students brainstorm a list of items, objects or animals, from very large, to small.
Record each item on a separate piece of paper or card.
Setup 2 or 3 hoops at the end of the playing area.
Players relay run to sort the item according to the unit you would use to weigh them.
Determine sorting categories, eg. grams, kilograms, tonnes.
In small groups, students take it in turns to relay run to the hoops at the end of the playing area and place one item at a time into the appropriate category.
After all cards have been sorted, perform a gallery walk and discuss student ideas.
Students research each animal to find its weight.
Use more sorting categories, eg. milligrams
