Use the counting sequence of ones flexibly
Count forwards to at least 30 and state the number after or before a given number, without needing to count from one
Count backwards from a given number 20 or less
Indoor or outdoor playing area
1 ball per student pair
Form student pairs
Set up playing area using existing playground lines and/or boundaries
In pairs, players are back to back and pass a ball to one another while counting.
With one ball per pair, players pass the ball back and forth.
Ball must change hands completely.
Allow students time to explore different passes .
Teacher provides students with a starting number.
Move apart and introduce new passes or positions (e.g. rolling along ground, bounce pass).
Students choose the counting sequence and starting number.
Students roll a dice to choose starting number.
Swap partners at the completion of each counting sequence.
Vary the ball type and size used.
