Represent and reason about additive relations
Create, record and recognise combinations of two numbers that add to numbers from 11 up to and including 20
Recall and use related addition and subtraction number facts to at least 20
Indoor or outdoor playing area
Hoops
Beanbags x 20 per team
Dice
Form small groups.
Place beanbags in a central area.
Each team has a hoop to make their number in.
Teams race to collect bean bags to make a target number.
Identify number to make, eg. 15.
Players take turns to roll a die and run to get the number of bean bags to build up their total. Place beanbags in hoop.
Continue until a team gets the exact roll to complete their total.
Teams call out 'stop' when they have reached their total.
Talk about how many you have, how many more you need, what strategies you used, and so on.
Reflect and discuss:
If you were to play the game again tomorrow, what is one thing you would do differently? Why?
Draw a picture that shows how you made your total.
Play in reverse. Make the number first and take away beanbags each time until there are no beanbags left.
Make more than one number total, eg. Hoop 1 = 10, Hoops 2 = 15.
Change the number total, eg. 20, 30.
