Compare and order common unit fractions
Compare and order unit fractions with denominators of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10 by placing them on a number line
Solve problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions with the same denominator
Represent the sum of fractions with the same denominator, recreating the whole, where the result may exceed one
Indoor playing area
Students can play at their desk or on the floor.
The rules are simple: if the teacher gives the number 1, students stand up. Any other number, they sit down.
Teacher calls out a number sentence involving fractions, eg. “3/4 + 1/4” and “2 - 1/2 - 2/4” (pick appropriate sums and differences for your students to solve mentally).
If the answer is 1, students stand up.
If the answer is any other number, students sit down.
Change the target number
Stand when the number is larger than 2; sit if it is 2 or below
Stand when the number is even; sit when it is odd
