Home > Stage 2 > Multiplicative relations > Number representations
Use arrays to establish multiplication facts from multiples of 2 and 4, 5 and 10
Use the array structure to coordinate the number of groups with the number in each group
Use the structure of the area model to represent multiplication and division
Create and represent multiplicative structure, moving from arrays to partially covered area models
Use number properties to find related multiplication facts
Generate and recall multiplication fact families up to 10 x 10
Outdoor playing area
Math workbook
Whistle
Print and cut out playing cards (ensure you print enough copies for there to be one card per student)
Mark a playing area
Players move around a playing area and find all matching cards with the same numerical answer, shown through different representations.
Teacher gives each student a playing card.
Teacher calls out a locomotor skill for students to use to move around marked space.
When whistle is blown students must move to find student with matching numerical answers.
Students record different representations in their workbook.
Challenge students to create another array to display the number.
Teacher collects playing cards and redistributes to play again, naming different locomotor skills each time.
Play with fewer representations.
1 card between 2 students
