Select strategies flexibly to solve addition and subtraction problems of up to 3 digits
Apply known mental strategies that use partitioning to add and subtract, such as bridging the decades
Indoor or outdoor playing area.
Six-faced die
Bundling sticks (ice-block sticks) and elastic bands
Form small groups
Put bundling sticks in a central area.
Teams race each other to collect bundling sticks and regroup them to reach a target number.
A target number is set, eg. 120.
In teams, players take turns to roll a dice and run to collect the corresponding number of bundling sticks.
Players bring the sticks back to their group and regroup and rename collections of ten.
The first group to reach the target number is the winner.
Play within a timeframe, eg. 2 minutes.
Increase or decrease the target number.
