Connect counting and numerals to quantities
Count with one-to-one correspondence, recognising that the last number name represents the total number in the collection
Count out a specified number of objects (from 5 to 20) from a larger collection, keeping track of the count
Represent numbers as quantities to at least 20 using objects (such as fingers), number words and numerals
A playing area approximately 25m x 25m
One dome shaped marker per student
Whiteboard and marker or workbook and pencil per student
Set out the playing area (25 students = approximately 25m x 25m)
Divide students into 2 groups called 'builders' and 'bulldozers'
2 groups. Each player has a marker.
Half the players place their markers with the round side up and the other half with the round side down (dish up).
On a signal, players run around trying to flip over the other group’s markers to match their own.
Play for a set time (e.g. 45 seconds) until the teacher signals the end of the round.
Students count the number of 'bulldozers' and number of 'builders' and record the amounts in numerals in their workbook or on whiteboard.
Give students a starting number to count on from when calculating the total of 'builders' and 'bulldozers'.
Vary the locomotor movement.
Increase or decrease the size of the playing field.
