Identify part–whole relationships in numbers up to 10

Use drawings, words and numerals to record addition and subtraction, and explain their thinking (Reasons about relations)
For each pair of students:
1 x Hoop
10 x Beanbags
10-sided dice
A3 size 10-frame
Form small groups.
Evenly spread hoops around a center hoop.
Place a ten-frame and die next to each hoop.
Place all bean bags in the center hoop.
Group students in pairs.
Pairs stand at designated hoop.
The aim of this game is to make as many combinations of 10 in the allocated time.
In pairs students:
Roll the die.
Take it in turns to collect the corresponding number of bean bags (one bean bag at a time) from the canter hoop and place in their ten-frame.
Calculate how many more bean bags are needed to make 10.
Take it in turns to collect the number of bean bags needed to make a total of 10.
Record the combination of 10 in their workbook using numbers, words or drawings.
Students continue making and recording combinations of 10 until time is up.
