Ask questions and gather data
Gather data and track what has been counted by using concrete materials, tally marks, lists or symbols
Create displays of data and interpret them
Organise collected data into lists and tables to display information
Indoor or outdoor playing area
Chalk, hoops, markers or ropes to form 9 concentric circles on the ground
Throw-line 3 metres from target
One small ball or similar per player, e.g. sponge ball, softball, tennis ball, bean bags. A non-rolling ball or object is best.
Pencil and paper
Form small groups.
Set up bullseye (hoops or chalk) with values 10, 20, 50, 100.
Mark throwing line.
Students create a table to record their data.
Players in small groups roll or throw a ball to a target, recording their results using tally marks.
Each player rolls or throws the ball to the target area 20 times.
The aim is to score the highest total
Students record scores in their table as tally marks then write the total of each score in the next column.
Increase or decrease the distance from the throw-line to the target.
Vary the method of sending the ball (e.g. throw, roll, kick, strike).
