Many are looking forward to the next season of “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” including me. The third and final season will come out this July and is based on the book “We’ll Always Have Summer” by Jenny Han. As someone who has read the entire book series, I can say that I’m very excited for this upcoming season.
The date that the season is being released has been revealed to be July 16th, 2025. This makes for the perfect mid-summer watch. It will be released the same way as the prior season, having weekly episodes on Wednesdays, not an all-at-once release.
Season 2 closely follows the book “It’s Not Summer Without You” by Jenny Han. At the end of the first season, it’s revealed that Susannah has cancer and has limited time left. This leads into the main event of season 2, Susannah’s death, and what comes after it.
Susannah’s death leads to many conflicts in season 2, including her sister, Julia, wanting to sell the iconic Cousins beach house. The beach house meant a lot to Susannah and still means a lot to the Fisher and Conklin kids. Throughout the season, we see them explore many different ideas for saving the beach house, which they end up succeeding in.

We also saw many flashbacks during the season of moments before Susannah passed. These include moments preparing for Steven’s graduation and Belly’s last moment with her.
There’s also much progression between the beginning and the end of Belly and Conrad’s relationship. We see moments of talking to each other over the phone while Conrad is at college, at Susannah’s funeral, and when they meet unexpectedly at the beach house.
The season ends with Belly and Jeremiah becoming a couple while visiting colleges. A final shot shows Conrad devastated that they’ve become a couple.
After seeing the teasers and trailers that have come out in the past couple of weeks, I’m much more excited about this season coming out. I will be discussing certain moments from the third book that I’m hoping will be included in the season. Spoilers Ahead!
It’s been revealed in the description of the new season that it will take place four years after the second season, making Belly well into her junior year of college. However, in the book, the story only takes place two years after the second book, and Belly is finishing her freshman year of college.
By the looks of the trailer, we will get to see many moments of Belly and Jeremiah attending college together. One major moment that happens at the beginning of the book is that Jeremiah cheats on Belly while they are taking a break from each other. After this, he proposes to her as a way to rebuild her trust in him. This is a moment that is crucial to the story of the third season, because it seems as if she is over Conrad and ready to settle down with Jeremiah.
The book switches the point of view over to Conrad throughout the story, showing his sadness and anger about losing Belly. I’m hoping to see a lot more of his point of view in this season, as it shows a different perspective on the Belly and Jeremiah situation.
As Belly and Jeremiah’s wedding gets closer in the book, Conrad and Belly rebuild their relationship. This makes the moment at Jeremiah’s bachelor’s party, where Conrad finds out that he cheated on Belly, so important. Conrad expresses to Belly how he still loves her, bringing back the love triangle conflict.
Many fans are wondering if the author, Jenny Han, will change the ending in the TV series. However, I don’t think that she would change who Belly ends up with. She has kept the plot the same with minor differences so far throughout the past two seasons, so I don’t see why she would switch it up now.
I’m anticipating the next season coming out on July 16th, the same way that many fans are. It’s exciting to see how the third book will be portrayed on TV.
