Aurora’s Lady Greenmen soccer team has advanced to the district finals- but not without hard work. This season has been filled with trials and tribulations, yet the team has managed to keep pushing forward. This behavior is now rewarded by their advancement into districts.
For seniors on the team, this season has been a great close to four years of hard work. Seniors Skylar Rule, Charlotte Hart, Mira Houde, Hannah Hopwood, and Sophie Petrash have helped build a legacy within Lady Greenmen soccer. Districts are just the next step in an already great season.
Charlotte Hart, team captain, notes that despite not having the record she had hoped for this year, she states, “I feel we’ve shown immense growth both on and off the field.”
Despite numerous goals, steals, and wins, the senior girls cherish one thing more than the others from this season: each other. Petrash, a senior player, shares, “I am grateful I get to spend my last season with these girls.”
Senior Skylar Rule states that the connections she has made with her teammates has been the best part of her high school experience. Rule says, “Getting to see some of my best friends every single day” will be what she misses the most.
For the Lady Greenmen, as the season comes to a close, the team’s advancement is becoming more and more precious, especially to seniors.
When discussing the excitement of districts, Rule explains, “I’m so excited that we advanced because not only was it a hard-fought battle, it also means I get at least an extra weeks with this team which made the win all the more special.”
Petrash admits most of her enthusiasm for advancement is because the season is her last: “I am trying to hold onto this season as long as I can because I will miss these girls so much.”
When asked about district finals, all the girls discuss their pride in their team and themselves. Senior goalie Hannah Hopwood discusses her optimism for districts: “We have truly gained momentum and connected as a team, which we needed to continue forward.”
Underclassman Abigail “Jo” Dalessadro is excited to see “everyone battle” and “see the fire” in their next game. She says, “It’s going to be a fight but it is going to be fun to see the effort and the education people put into the games.”
Senior Mira Houde is proud of her team’s advancement exclaiming, “Hard work pays off!”
Saturday night at Nordonia High School, the Lady Greenmen take on the Louisville Leopards in the District Finals. The game starts at 7:00 p.m. so let’s show our Greenmen pride and show up for the girls! Soccer balls won’t be the only thing the girls are kicking!
