Dual at the School is taking place at Aurora High School this year on Friday, January 31, 2025. Aurora wrestlers will be taking on wrestlers from Benedictine during this 45-minute assembly, but students are welcomed to stay and watch after 2:25 p.m..
Mr. Hayes explained, “The event will bring the entire student body together inside the varsity gym for a short period of time on Friday afternoon (January 31st) to help raise money in the fight against cancer while allowing everyone to see an actual AHS wrestling contest as the Greenmen will be competing against another high school.”
It not only brings positive attention to the wrestling program, but it is also a fundraiser for the nonprofit Pin Cancer organization. "The event seeks to leverage the sport of wrestling to help bring people together in the fight against cancer,” Mr. Hayes shared.
"Additionally, as this event is focused on raising money for cancer research through Pin Cancer, donations of $1 from students/staff are being requested upon entering as the 'price of admission' with all donations going to Pin Cancer. That said, donations are voluntary, and no one will be denied admission if they don't donate," he added.
Student council ran a bake sale during A-Time on January 23 that raised over $300. The day before the event, on January 30, another bake sale will be held during A-Time where the proceeds will benefit Pin Cancer.
He continued, “The Dual-in-the-School is something that many high schools have done over the course of time as a way to bring positive attention to their wrestling program (as it is a sport that has a limited number of home contests and can be limited in terms of student-fan attendance)."
Coach Johnson proposed the idea of Dual at the school. “He thought it would be a cool event for our team and the students,” Coach Tritto mentioned.
Coach Johnson shared, “This is a great opportunity for us to showcase the sport of wrestling to the student body. The administrative support to get this event going has been awesome and we are excited to put on a show.”
Coach Tritto explained, “The wrestling team is partnering with the student council to raise funds for the Pin Cancer Foundation. Pin Cancer provides funding for pediatric cancer research and patient care.” To learn more about the Pin Cancer organization, check out the website here.
