Don’t you ever feel like our schools need some sprucing up, something to brighten people's moods when they walk into the building or watch a sporting event?
Well, no more worries because coming this May 17, 2025, from 10:30-12:30 a.m., four of Aurora High School’s NHS members- Anna Grummitt, Addyson Rumskey, Roman Hardesky, and Alexis Kemble- will be conducting an event to plant flower bulbs around Aurora High School.
People can bring their own gardening supplies, consisting of shovels, gloves, and any other resources they intend to use. There will also be tools supplied for this event for whoever needs to use them.
This event will be open to NHS members for some well-deserved volunteering hours.
Volunteer dates are now distributed on the NHS Google Classroom to plant the bulbs as well as earn hours for supplying gardening tools. In the upcoming years, there may also be hours to keep up and maintain the flowers. People can then trim the flowers, clean up the area, and maintain the exterior of the Aurora schools.
This event is a great opportunity to not only increase your volunteer hours but also make our school grounds more appealing.
Not only will our high school students be glamorizing the schools, but they will also be helping out our grounds crew, who put in lots of time and effort to keep our landscape as clean and nice as it is.
As one of the four NHS members a part of this event, I have to say I am so excited for how the schools will look. Our schools do so much, and this is just a small way to say thank you. With the aroma of flowers blossoming over our school yard, new students looking to attend the Aurora City Schools might just be more intrigued.
Alexis Kemble goes on to say the benefits this event brings forth: “It allows [AHS students] to help ‘beautify’ the high school grounds and take pride in the district landscape.” We should certainly take pride in our high school, for we have an amazing district filled with amazing staff. Kemble explains how this project will not only be a prideful event but one that will create a legacy for our students: “Since we are planting annuals, these flowers should rebloom every year right around graduation. Each year, the NHS Class of 2026 project will be remembered when the flowers start to bloom again.” I cannot think of a better way to graduate from Aurora than seeing the flowers bloom, symbolizing a fresh start and new beginnings. This special sendoff for our seniors will bring a new legacy to Greenman Nation for generations to come.
Not only are our NHS members working hard on this event, but our fabulous teachers, Mrs. Duncan and Mrs. Walker, are too. They are providing advice and support, which is such a big help when it comes to building an event from scratch.
NHS members, sign up for this wholesome event and support our greenhouse. We hope to see people there with shovels, ready to plant a bulb and watch their flowers grow.
