Catholic Schools Week

WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

This week we will start something new and exciting!  This past November, my husband and I attended the Muhammed Ali Humanitarian Awards. I was so inspired by the spirit of Muhammad Ali and the impact he had on the world. In honor of Black History Month, I have chosen Ali to spend our time learning about during the month of February (and possibly into March). This week we start with an introduction to who he is as a boxer, artist, and activist. We will learn about his 6 core principles: Confidence, Conviction, Dedication, Giving, Respect and Spirituality.

We are also still spending time on grammar with a focus on comma usage.

Morphology:  We will have a comprehensive morphology quiz on February 23rd. This is the last day of the trimester. Students should use their morphology cards on the ring and their morpheme chart in their notebook to study. I will make it as simple as I can and it will more than likely be done using google forms.

Homework:  Read pp. 118-147 of When You Reach Me and complete assigned job sheet for literature circles FRIDAY

Math: Mrs. Bennett

This week in Math class students will complete a Valentine's Day math activity! Students will explore unit rates using bouquets of flowers and boxes of chocolates. Using different florist and Ghirardelli websites, students will calculate how much they are paying per flower in a bouquet and how much for an individual chocolate. Using this information, students will look for patterns and make an argument for which bouquet and chocolate they would by.

Students will also wrap up our chapter in 2D Figures. We will take a test on Wednesday, February 21. There is a study guide on Google Classroom and students will have time in class to prepare. The test will cover the following skills:

Homework:

2/13 - SS #85

2/14- SS #86

2/15- SS #88 (we will complete SS #87 at school)

2/16- SS Quiz

Social Studies: Mrs. Crush

Students will continue their research on their topics in both Social Studies and Technology. Researching these topics will allow the students to teach their classmates and learn the importance of these events or people throughout our history. We will be working on these projects the next couple of weeks.

Due Date: Friday, February 23

Religion: Mrs. Crush

We will continue our Saints Madness project this week. Students have chosen a saint to research. The students are working individually this year. Our goal for this week is to research about our saint. This will help the students to determine which population their nonprofit will be serving in honor of. This project will take several weeks and a tentative timeline is below.
