WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

LA: MRS. PHELPS

This week is very exciting! We are beginning Literature Circles! The students will be reading the novel, Wonder by R.J. Palacio. We have a class set; you do NOT need to purchase this book. Students were introduced to literature circles on Friday. I have posted the slides I used to explain literature circles and the 6 roles. This week will be guided by me and I will be doing the reading out loud, while modeling the literature circle roles/jobs.

After this week, students will be given certain pages to read and a job to complete for the following week. They can always use in class time during our rotations to read and work on their assigned job.

Vocabulary: Our words will come from the text and students will still be quizzed on 5 words on Fridays. These quizzes will also include our new morphology concept for the week. This week there will be no quiz, however, we will be discussing the vocabulary in class.

Morphology: This week we will add the new Latin base "port", meaning to carry, gate or entryway. Examples are transport, airport, and import.

Homework:  None (homework begins next week)

4th grade Lit Circles

The results will be shared at conferences.

1/17- SS #70

1/18- SS #62 (SS Lesson #71 will be done at school)

SOCIAL STUDIES: MRS. CRUSH

We are taking a break from our United States regions and work on our Famous Kentuckian Project. We will first define the word significant and use Frida Kahlo as an example.  The students will then be paired with another classmate to research significant events that have happened in their famous Kentuckian's life. We will then create mobile timelines from the significant events found. These projects will need to be completed by Friday, January 19. Students had last week, Wednesday, and Friday to work on it during class.

RELIGION: MRS CRUSH

We will continue Chapter 4, "Fortitude to Live the Truth," in their Word of Life workbooks. The students will be able to define the cardinal moral virtue of fortitude, come to know that the virtues of perseverance, patience, and magnanimity are parts of the cardinal virtue of fortitude, and be able to distinguish between patience, perseverance, and magnanimity.

HW: Student Led Prayer: Praise 2 due Friday, January 12. *Sharing with students on 1/8.
