WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

This week we will begin using a graphic organizer to plan out our opinion articles about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Students will use information they have researched from various sources to support their opinions. Our focus this week will be on introduction paragraphs and various types of hooks authors use to grab the attention of a reader. They will begin to come up with their reasons they believe people should be informed about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. We are in the early drafting stages, therefore, this writing project will take us some time and there is potential students will have homework to complete certain portions of their writing- you will get plenty of notice before this happens!

In Morphology, we will be adding the new Latin base "form" to our Morphology wall. Form means "to shape" and can be found in many common words we use, for example, uniform, formula, and transform.

We will have 5 vocabulary words this week. Be sure to study and utilize the slides that will be posted on Google Classroom Tuesday.  If your child is attending the EMS field trip, they will take the quiz first thing in morning on Friday in homeroom.

Homework: Vocab quiz on Friday! This will include our new Latin base "form"

**Thank you to everyone who donated index cards! I really appreciate your generosity!

All answers must be writen in simplest form and changed from improper to mixed when applicable. Students also have access to a practice test on their HMH Dashboards. The following categories they will become experts are Aztec Daily Life, Aztec Government and Empire, Aztec Gods and Mythology, Aztec Society, Tenochtilan, Spanish Conquest, Aztec Art, and Hernan Cortes. They will be responsible to research answer questions and create a presentation with another classmate. This will be completed during our class time. If students are unable to finish in class, they will be asked to complete for homework.

Religion: Mrs. Crush

We will continue Chapter 4, "The Word of God Made Present among Us," in our Word of Life workbooks. In this chapter, the students will come to know how God worked in the Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth, that God instructed His people to huild the Ark of the Covenant, through which He was present to them, know the similarities between God's presence in the Ark of the Covenant and the Word of God taking flesh and dwelling among us, and learn that through God's grace, Mary is the new Ark of the Covenant.  Last week, we visited the church to see our own Tabernacle.
