WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

LA: MRS. PHELPS

April 8th- April 19th

We are learning figurative language through poetry. I am excited to start using poetry to teach about ways poets and writers can use specific language to help portray feelings and paint pictures in the mind of the reader. As a kid, I loved to read Shel Silverstein books and write my own poetry. Last week, we learned about figurative language including; imagery, simile, metaphors and personification. This week, we focus on idiom, onomatopoeia, alliteration, and hyperbole. We will also be discussing common characteristics of poetry, such as, form, rhyme, meter, etc.

Homework: **Figurative Language Quiz moved to Wednesday, May 1st due to MAP testing and needing more time to review.*

**Reading MAP test will begin Tuesday, April 23rd**

RELIGION: MRS CRUSH

We will begin Chapter 7, "God Makes Promises to His People," in our Word of Life workbooks.  Students will be asked to define the four vocabulary words on notebook paper. This will be completed during Monday's class. If not completed during class, it may be homework. In this chapter, students will begin to understand that the Old Covenant is fulfilled by the New Covenant, to know that the prophecy of Genesis 3:15 is a prophecy made by God about the Messiah, to know that God chose people to serve as prohets, and to know that the covenants God makes with Noah and Abrah advance His plan to make Himself known to all people.
