Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

Hooray for finishing MAP testing!!! These will provide us with one good data point to discuss during conferences and great information to guide my next steps in teaching comprehension and language skills.

Our comprehension skill of the week will continue to be finding main idea based on the key details in the text. We will learn strategies for finding the main idea of a story and how to use details to support our claim. This week we will apply this skill to fiction and non-fiction texts. It is important students know the main idea is about one sentence that tells what the text is mostly about and not a retelling of events. There is a difference!

In class, we are now doing morphology every day of the week and building a card set of prefixes, suffixes, Greek bases and Latin bases. We have started something called the "3 part drill" that we do 3 times a week. It involves auditory, visual and kinesthetic ways to review and learn morphemes.

Homework: Study for Vocabulary quiz on Friday!

Social Studies- Mrs. Crush

In Social Studies, we will continue our Geography, Humans, and the Environment Unit. We have studied the different parts of a map last week and will apply them to different activities and assignments.  On Friday, the students created their own "maps/trails" and were partnered up. One partner had to tell their map/trail using only cardinal and intermediate directions. *Photos of students below.* Students will begin their "Barefoot Island" project. They will be using their knowledge on the parts of a map and creating their own island.

Religion- Mrs. Crush

We will begin Chapter 2, "God Is Love," in our Word of Life workbooks. In this chapter, students will know that God reveals Himself to us as the Blessed Trinity, a perfect communion of love, recall that God has a plan to share His love with us and that He invites us to be in communion with Him, know that the theological virtues gives us the ability to be holy, and begin to know that we were created for true happiness that comes from the gift of self to God and others.
