Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

This week in LA we will begin the journey of making informational magazines on the students' topic of choice. These magazines will focus on the following text structures:

I will be laying the groundwork and introducing/reviewing the text structures with the class. This assignment will take us some time and there may be times in the future that students do have homework pertaining to this specific writing project, so please keep up with the newsletter and check agendas! When we begin writing, students will receive a rubric and guidelines for the assignment.

In Morphology, we will be adding the new Latin base "form" to our Morphology wall. Form means "to shape" and can be found in many common words we use, for example, uniform, formula, and transform.

Unfortunately (at least I think it is haha), we cannot have vocabulary words this week due to various morning activities that are during 3rd grade LA time. Therefore, no quiz Friday.

Homework: No vocabulary quiz due to Halloween activities, house challenge, and Malibu Jacks field trip.

**Thank you so much to those of you who sent in index cards! We will be good to go for awhile thanks to your generosity!

We will also learn the associative property to help students solve problems mentally.

Social Studies- Mrs. Crush

In Social Studies, students have been using their Map Skills to answer questions using Maps and Map Keys. This week we will focus on Longitude and Latitude. Using our knowledge on these skills, we will be doing some fun activities, including a Halloween themed activity.

The third graders did an awesome job on their Barefoot Islands! You may see images of their islands below.

Religion- Mrs. Crush

We will continue Chapter 3, "Creation: God's Gift of Love," in their Word of Life workbooks. The students will be able to understand that God is the Creator of all things--visible and invisible, to know that out of love for us, God created a good and ordered world, understand the nature and role of angels, and that God entrusted us to care for His creation.
