Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

This week I will be introducing literature circles to the 3rd grade! With their projects due on Wednesday, we are ready and excited to move on to reading a novel together! 3rd grade will be reading Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. This week, I will be teaching them all about literature circles and about the literature circle jobs. See the slides below if you have any questions! Also feel free to reach out if that does not cover your questions. I will be reading out loud this week and modeling the jobs for them. I will not give them their books to take home until Friday. Students will always be able to use center rotation time for independent reading and working on their job sheet.

(**Students are borrowing the schools class set and are responsible for keeping their book in great condition!)

Morphology: Due to the crazy schedule last week, we did not have time to focus much on our Latin base "port", meaning to carry. We will spend some time on that this week!

Homework: FINAL INFORMATIONAL MAGAZINE DUE THURSDAY, JANUARY 25th. If you feel your child can be responsible taking their project back and forth, they can also have time during our center rotations Monday and Tuesday.

Math-Mrs. Bennett

This week in Math class students will be finishing their Math MAP test. Due to our crazy schedule last week (2-hour delays and a snow day) students did not finish their test yet. We will test Monday and Tuesday of this week. Afterwards, we will pick back up on chapter on understanding division. Students are reading real-world scenarios and modeling it with equal groups. Students will learn that there are two different types of division problems- fair share and measurement. Students will practice modeling the two different scenarios correctly. Below is an example of each:

Fair Share-

Clyde places 27 baseball caps into 3 boxes. He places an equal number of baseball caps in each box.

How many baseball caps are in each box?

Measurement-

Mr. Kenmar has 28 peppers to sell. He packages the peppers into equal groups of 4. How can Mr. Kenmar find the number of packages he can make?

Homework:

1/22- SS #73

1/23- SS #74

1/24- SS #65

1/25- SS #76

1/26- No SS Quiz- MAP Testing

Social Studies- Mrs. Crush

In Social Studies, the students will continue their Presidents Project. This project will be completed in both Social Studies and Technology, along with Writing. Each student has been assigned a president, they will research, and learn about the president. When gathering research, the students will create a Google Slide and eventually present those during class. Also, the students will write an autobiography for their presidents using the information that they gathered. Similar to Christmas Around the World, the students will be dressing up as their presidents and sharing their story with students and parents. Date for this is TBD

Religion- Mrs. Crush

We will complete Chapter 5, "God's Promise of a Savior," in our Word of Life workbooks. The students will recall that the Father of Lies deceived Adam and Eve, so they chose to disobey God, know that through Original Sin, Adam and Eve lost original holiness and original justice, begin to understand that concupiscence makes it very hard to avoid sin without God's grace, know that Original Sin causes an infinite chasm in our relationship with God and one another, and know that God promised to send us a Savior because we cannot heal our relationship with God on our own.

UPDATED *1/22/24* Ch. 5 Test on Wednesday, January 24. (Study Ch. 5: pages 53-64, vocabulary words: posted on Google Classroom + students wrote them on notebook paper placed in SS/Religion folder, Doodles in their books, and Ch. 5 Review: page 62).
