WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

LA: MRS. PHELPS

This week we are learning how to make inferences about character traits using a characters thoughts, feelings and actions. We will use many of the main characters from Wonder and create word clouds that describe the characters. The class is also working on a cool art project with Mrs. Smith and they will be creating their own Wonder inspired portrait with words describing themselves all around! I cannot wait to see the finished products!

Morphology:  This week we will learn one new Latin base, struct, meaning to build. Some keywords are construct, obstruct, instruction

I am SO impressed with the results of the morphology quiz from last week! All students should be really proud of what they have learned so far this year! I am confident this will help tremendously with word decoding and comprehension.

Homework: Read p. 231-270 of Wonder and complete job sheet for literature circle meetings on FRIDAY

MATH: MRS. BENNETT

This week in Math class we are learning how to solve a 3 and 4-digit number by a 1-digit divisor using the standard algorithm (long division.) Students will explore this algorithm using money. Students will use $100, $10, and $1 bills to show how to divide amounts like 756 / 4. As student begin to split the bills into 4 groups, they will realize they have to make exchanges. The 3 extra $100 bills will need to be traded for 30 $10 bills in order to divide. This will help students conceptualize the steps of long division.
