WHAT WE ARE LEARNING
Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps
This week students will be expected to have their first draft of their opinion pieces completed by Friday. We will still dedicate class time to this. However, some students are further ahead of others, therefore; some students may have homework while others do not. Students have had AMPLE class time in the previous weeks to work on this and if they haven't begun their body paragraphs, perhaps they have not been using their class time appropriately.
In Morphology, we will be adding 1 new suffix (-er/-or meaning one who or that which). For example, a teacher is "one who teaches" and a painter is "one who paints".
Our vocabulary words this week will come from the Profile of a Graduate as students are working on a piece that will uploaded into one or more of their folders. They will be posted on Google Classroom on Tuesday.
Homework:
Study for vocabulary quiz Friday (including new morphology concept)
Complete first draft of opinion piece (at least 5 paragraphs) by Friday
Math: Mrs. Bennett
This week in math class, we are working on reading and writing decimals through the thousandths. Students will learn how to write a decimal number in standard form, word form, and expanded form. We will also work on comparing two decimals to thousandths based on meanings of the digits in each place value position. Students will correctly use >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.
*I have been updating my Google Site recently. If you go to the "Math Resource" tab, I have added help videos for different math skills. These videos are made by me, so you can see exactly how I am teaching a skill in class. Please check these out and use them as needed. I will be adding new videos throughout the year!*
Homework:
11/27- SS #53
11/28- SS #54
11/29- SS #55
11/30- SS #56
12/1- SS Quiz #14
Here are some example questions you can ask your student:
Social Studies: Mrs. Crush
We will complete our unit on the Aztec Empire. Each student has been assigned a topic to research and become an expert. The following categories they will become experts are Aztec Daily Life, Aztec Government and Empire, Aztec Gods and Mythology, Aztec Society, Tenochtilan, Spanish Conquest, Aztec Art, and Hernan Cortes. They will be responsible to research answer questions and create a presentation with another classmate. This will be completed during our class time. If students are unable to finish in class, they will be asked to complete for homework.
Their presentation and notes are Thursday, November 30, morning.
Religion: Mrs. Crush
We will begin our lesson on the Season of Advent, in our Word of Life workbooks. In this liturgical season, students will learn that Jesus taught us to prepare for His Second Coming by keeping watch and praying, that the liturgical actions of the Church during Advent fill us with anticipation for the fullness and joy of Christmas, and learn the significance of the "O Antiphons." In class, students will be assigned a feast day during Advent to research and present to the class. They will be creating a wreath that is decorated with objects, colors, and symbols that present key aspects of the feast day they have researched.
2nd Trimester Service Hours + Reflection due Wednesday, Feb. 14
