3rd Grade Christmas Around the World!

We are excited to share that 3rd grade will be participating in Christmas Around the World. Each student has an assigned country and will be conducting research in both Social Studies and Technology class periods. They then will present their information on Wednesday, December 13 from 9:30-10:05a.m. to a few classes. We would also like to invite you to join us in celebrating Christmas Around the World!

The students have been asked to either wear traditional clothing from their country or bring in a traditional dish to share for others to try. If choosing the traditional dish, please have all the ingredients listed for those who have allergies.  In class, the students have been told that we are not asking for them to go out and buy traditional clothing, to try and brainstorm with the items you may already have at home.

***The students will bring their traditional clothing or dish on Wednesday, December 13.***

We have stressed to the students to use their class time wisely to prevent them from having to complete at home. The due date for their project is the morning of December 8. Prior to Christmas Around the World on December 13, the students will present during Social Studies and Technology to allow for practice and feedback.

Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

This week we are drafting our paragraphs for our informational writing project! Students turned in their graphic organizers Friday and should have all 5 of those complete. In class, we will be focusing on one text structure/paragraph per day. While I would have loved to have this project complete before break, that is not a realistic time frame. Therefore, we will just be working our tails off until the 19th and picking up where we left off when school resumes in January.

Homework: Project Checkpoint: Have first drafts of all 5 paragraphs complete for informational magazine

No vocabulary or new morphology concept this week!

Math-Mrs. Bennett

This week in math class students are working in partners to design the blueprint of their gingerbread houses. Students are using the dimensions of a graham cracker (12 cm x 6 cm) to accurately design a model to scale. Students are able to use half of a graham cracker and a fourth of a graham cracker, but have to determine the dimensions of those parts. As students add to their blueprint they must calculate the area and perimeter of their gingerbread blueprints. They must keep in mind the Essential Question: How can I design a gingerbread house that doesn't exceed 342 square centimeters and has a perimeter less than 125 cm?

*Before Christmas Break, we will bring our blueprints to life using graham crackers and candy! Below is a signup genius link. If you are able, please sign up to bring an item or two. I will make the icing. Thank you!
