Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

Update: Since we missed a day of Language Arts this morning, I have decided that the new due date of our informational text structure magazines is going to be next Wednesday. However, this week is the final week we will be working on them in class.  If students complete their projects they can turn it in anytime before Wedneaday, the 24th. I am anxiously waiting to wrap these up so we can move on and begin the novel, Because of Winn Dixie. In class this week, we will work on the visual representation text feature. This can be a timeline, diagram, or graph. Please be sure to ask your child about this because they may need to be bringing it home to complete it.

At this point, they should have 1st drafts of all 5 paragraphs written. I have proof-read them and they are to re-write making corrections for their final drafts. They should also have 2 images printed, 5 quiz questions written, and their cover should have been started. At this point, they are putting all the elements together for the final product. The rubric and examples are still posted below.

Morphology: We will learn a new Latin base this week: "port" meaning to carry. This will be added to the morphology wall and our card stack but they will not be quizzed on it because there is no vocabulary this week.

Homework: FINAL INFORMATIONAL MAGAZINE DUE WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 26th.

Social Studies- Mrs. Crush

In Social Studies, the students will continue their Presidents Project. This project will be completed in both Social Studies and Technology, along with Writing. Each student has been assigned a president, they will research, and learn about the president. When gathering research, the students will create a Google Slide and eventually present those during class. Also, the students will write an autobiography for their presidents using the information that they gathered. Similar to Christmas Around the World, the students will be dressing up as their presidents and sharing their story with students and parents. Date for this is TBD

Religion- Mrs. Crush

We will continue Chapter 5, "God's Promise of a Savior," in our Word of Life workbooks. The students will recall that the Father of Lies deceived Adam and Eve, so they chose to disobey God, know that through Original Sin, Adam and Eve lost original holiness and original justice, begin to understand that concupiscence makes it very hard to avoid sin without God's grace, know that Original Sin causes an infinite chasm in our relationship with God and one another, and know that God promised to send us a Savior because we cannot heal our relationship with God on our own.
