Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

This week we will begin switching classes! In Language Arts, students will take spelling and morphology assessments, etc (we did not get to these last week). This is for me to gauge where they are to help guide my instruction. They will also get a crash course on the history of the English language, including its origin and why it can be so tricky sometimes! We will begin reading engaging literary and informational texts with a focus on using evidence from the text to ask and answer questions. This is an important thinking strategy for comprehension.

HOMEWORK: You should be reading at least 20 minutes a night. You may keep track of this in your agenda (there is a yellow box for tracking minutes read). On Monday, the reading log for this week will post on google classroom.  It is a google form that should be completed every Thursday (due Friday) on Google Classroom.

Math-Mrs. Bennett

We are excited to get our first full week under our belt in math class! We are continuing to get organized and learn our new routines. This week we will learn our warm-up routine: Calendar Math to promote rich, deep conversations around math. Each month their will be a new pattern and skill addresses. Students will predict what they think will come next and why. We will spend this week getting to know one another, assessing students' prior knowledge, and starting to work on our first Module- Understand Multiplication.

Homework:

We are starting homework this week. Students should complete one SS lesson a night. The assigned lessons are listed below. Students should take their books home and bring them back to school each day. We will check our lessons every Friday, so students have the opportunity to ask questions and review problems. We will take a SS Quiz every Friday, starting this week. The quiz questions correspond to the homework, which is why students should take their time when completing a lesson and have an adult check over their work. Each quiz is 7 questions and will be a grade in Rediker.

*Students may work ahead in their books, but please ensure to only work a few lessons ahead. This will help the material on their homework align with the material on the Friay quizzes.

Social Studies- Mrs. Crush

In Social Studies, we will begin our Geography, Humans, and the Environment Unit. Students will be able to identify the 7 continents and 5 oceans by using globes and maps.  They will also locate various world communities in relation to oceans and continents.

HW: Students will be tested on the 7 continents and 5 oceans on Thursday, Aug. 31.

Continent & Ocean Practice: IXL Social Studies (3rd Grade) A4, A5, & A6

Religion- Mrs. Crush

We will begin the school year creating Student Led Prayers.  Each class, a different student will begin our Religion/Social Studies lesson with a prayer.  My goal is to excite and allow the students to learn how to pray, and give them the opportunity to pray for things they feel are important to them.  Class time will be given to begin their prayers. A few examples will be posted on Google Classroom as guides.   Each student will create about 5-7 prayers this year.

HW: "A Little About Me..." Most students have completed in class, but there are a few that still need to finish. This is due Tuesday, August 29. UPDATED 8/23/23

Student Led Prayer due Friday, August 24. Class time will be given to the students to begin and possibly finish.
