WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

LA: MRS. PHELPS

This week we will jump into learning about point of view and how the perspective that a story is being told from can effect the way we understand the characters and events. Wonder is told from various points of view so this is the perfect way to weave comprehension skills into our reading. We will not only learn about recognizing different points of view while reading, but we will practice writing from different points of view as well.

This week we will finish learning the comma rules and practice using those skills in our writing.

Morphology:  We will have a comprehensive morphology quiz on February 23rd. This is the last day of the trimester. Students should use their morphology cards on the ring and their morpheme chart in their notebook to study. I will make it as simple as I can and it will more than likely be done using google forms.

Homework:  Read pp. 151-189 of Wonder and complete assigned job sheet for literature circles FRIDAY.

MATH: MRS. BENNETT

This week in Math class we will complete Valentine's Day algebraic puzzles! Students will use the order of operations to determine unknown values in equations. Students will recognize that an equal sign shows a comparison between amounts. Using a scale, students will experiment with adding different numbers to each side, while keeping the scale balanced to represent what an equation models. Students will write their own Valentine's Day algebraic puzzles using emoji's and solve one another's!

We will also begin our next chapter on dividing by 1-digit divisors.

Homework:

2/13 - SS #85

2/14- SS #86

2/15- SS #88  (we will complete SS #87 at school)

2/16- SS Quiz

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

SOCIAL STUDIES: MRS. CRUSH

Students will finish presenting their Famous Kentuckian Projects this week.  We will begin learning about the Midwest Region. The students will learn the importance of agriculture and how water sources play a huge role in that. Similar to the two former regions, the students will research a landmark and presenting this information to their classmates.

Midwest States + Capitals Test: Friday, February 23.

RELIGION: MRS CRUSH

We will continue our Saints Madness project this week. Students have chosen a saint to research. The students are working individually this year. Our goal for this week is to research about our saint. This will help the students to determine which population their nonprofit will be serving in honor of. This project will take several weeks and a tentative timeline is below.
