Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

This week in LA we will continue our journey of making informational magazines on the students' topic of choice. These magazines will focus on the following text structures:

This past week we got practice writing about one topic in the 5 text structures listed above. This week, we will use visual graphic organizers to help us determine how the information in a text is organized. Students are identifying key words as they read that give clues as to which text structure they are reading (ex: first, last, if, then, etc.). Learning how authors can present non-fiction texts will help when we begin our writing pieces.

In Morphology, we will be adding 4 NEW GREEK BASES (auto, scope, micro, and (o)logy). Since we typically only learn 1-2 new morphemes, I am considering these their vocabulary words for the week again. They will still have flash cards and slides to use for studying but the quiz will look like it did last week. After Thanksgiving, students can expect a lot of review since we have learned 9 new Greek bases in a short amount of time.

Homework: Study 4 new Greek bases for a quiz on Friday (review previously learned suffix cards as well)

Math-Mrs. Bennett

This week in Math class students are learning how to use properties, place value, regrouping, and concrete and visual models to find a product when one factor is a multiple of 10. Students will with Base-10 blocks to model multiplication with multiples of 10  to help them discover the pattern. We will then progress to multiplying by multiplies of 100, 1,000, and 10,000. For added challenge, some students will learn how to multiply using powers of 10.

*I have been updating my Google Site recently. If you go to the "Math Resource" tab, I have added help videos for different math skills. These videos are made by me, so you can see exactly how I am teaching a skill in class. Please check these out and use them as needed. I will be adding new videos throughout the year!*

Social Studies- Mrs. Crush

In Social Studies, we will continue our unit on Communities. In the first part, the students will learn about physical characteristics of communities, past and present. We will look at several maps of Louisville from when it first started until present day. We will then focus on the physical characteristics of our community, comparing communities, adapting to the physical environment, and mapping natural physical features.

Religion- Mrs. Crush

We will begin Chapter 4, "The Human Person," in their Word of Life workbooks. The students will be able to understand that man and woman were created in the image and likeness of God, that our souls are rational and give us the ability to think, choose, and love, and know that each person has immense dignity because he is created in the image and likeness of God.

*Below are images of the students enjoying nature last Friday. This connected to our lesson appreciating God's creation.
