WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

LA: MRS. PHELPS

This week we will be taking the reading MAP test during Language Arts. This takes up about half of our class time everyday and the rest will be spent in small groups where we are learning important spelling rules. During our short week last week, we focused on commonly confused homophones (there/their/they're and to/too/two).

No vocabulary or new morphology concept this week!

Homework:  None!

MATH: MRS. BENNETT

This week in Math class students are learning how to multiply 2-digit by 2-digit numbers. Students started by using area model to help them find their product. We will then progress to using partial products, and finally the standard algorithm using regrouping. Students will make connections between the three strategies and strengthen their understanding of the process. Students will also use estimation to ensure their product is reasonable. If ready, students will progress to 3-digit x 2-digit and 3-digit x 3-digit.

Homework:

*With several short weeks and a long break, some students have worked ahead and some have fallen behind in their lessons. This is not a big deal! If you child has not complete lesson #64, they are excused and can skip it. This will ensure all students 3-5 are on the same lesson. Thank you!*

1/8- SS #65

1/9- SS #66

1/10- SS #67

1/11- SS #68

1/12- SS Quiz

Here are some questions you can ask your student at home:

SOCIAL STUDIES: MRS. CRUSH

We are taking a break from our United States regions and work on our Famous Kentuckian Project. We will first define the word significant and use Frida Kahlo as an example.  The students will then be paired with another classmate to research significant events that have happened in their famous Kentuckian's life. We will then create mobile timelines from the significant events found. These projects will need to be completed by Wednesday, January 17. Students will have Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to work on it during class.

RELIGION: MRS CRUSH

Last week, we studied the Christmas liturgical season. The students had outstanding questions wanting to learn more about Jesus and where he grew up. We will begin Chapter 4, "Fortitude to Live the Truth," in their Word of Life workbooks. The students will be able to define the cardinal moral virtue of fortitude, come to know that the virtues of perseverance, patience, and magnanimity are parts of the cardinal virtue of fortitude, and be able to distinguish between patience, perseverance, and magnanimity.

HW: Student Led Prayer: Praise 2 due Friday, January 12. *Sharing with students on 1/8.

Tentative Ch. 4 Test on Tuesday, January 23.

2nd Trimester Service Hours + Reflection due Wednesday, Feb. 14
