WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

We are back to our regular schedule and finally able to resume all parts of our LA class. In the last two short weeks, students have been learning and researching the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. They have been watching news clips and reading articles and working on note taking skills. They have done a lot of work identifying key details and will now use that information to write an opinion writing piece about why is it important for us all to learn about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and what we should do to help.

In Morphology, we will be adding two new Latin bases to the morphology wall: "rupt", meaning to burst or break and "tract", meaning to pull or draw.  I am excited to get into the Greek and Latin bases over next few weeks. We will finally be able to see the bigger picture as we learn more morphemes and discover how essential they are to our understanding of the texts we read (especially unknown words).

We will go back to having 5 vocabulary words this week. Be sure to study and utilize the slides that will be posted on Google Classroom tomorrow.

Homework: Vocab quiz on Friday! This will include our 2 new Latin bases "rupt" and "tract".

**We make a lot of flash cards every week as a study tool for vocabulary and I am running very low. If anyone has any unused packs of index cards at home that they are willing to donate, I would be so appreciative!

Math: Mrs. Bennett

This week in Math class we are working on adding and subtracting mixed numbers with like denominators. Students will focus on subtracting two mixed numbers when regrouping is required. Once we are fluent with this process, we will begin to work on adding/subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. We are close to wrapping up our unit on adding/subtracting fractions with like and unlike denominators. We will most likely have a test towards the end of next week. This test will cover many skills and includes problems with multiple steps, so I recommend starting to review and studying a little everyday. I will have a study guide posted in the next couple days!

Homework:

10/23- SS #37

10/24- SS #38

10/25- SS #39

10/26- SS #40

 10/27- SS Quiz

Social Studies: Mrs. Crush

We will be continuing our unit on European Exploration and Its Effects. Students are learning about the cause and effects of the European Explorers had with the Native Americas. We are becoming experts in writing topic sentences and summaries based on reading passages.

Religion: Mrs. Crush

We will begin Chapter 4, "The Word of God Made Present among Us," in our Word of Life workbooks. In this chapter, the students will come to know how God worked in the Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth, that God instructed His people to huild the Ark of the Covenant, through which He was present to them, know the similarities between God's presence in the Ark of the Covenant and the Word of God taking flesh and dwelling among us, and learn that through God's grace, Mary is the new Ark of the Covenant.
