WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

LA: MRS. PHELPS

We are back to our regular schedule and finally able to resume all parts of our LA class. In the last two short weeks, students have been learning and researching the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. They have been watching news clips and reading articles. We will not begin exploring various other sources of information and work on note taking skills. They will identify the key details on the topic and use that information to write an opinion writing piece about why is it important for us all to learn about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and what we should do to help.

In Morphology, we will be adding two new Latin bases to the morphology wall: "rupt", meaning to burst or break and "tract", meaning to pull or draw.  I am excited to get into the Greek and Latin bases over next few weeks. We will finally be able to see the bigger picture as we learn more morphemes and discover how essential they are to our understanding of the texts we read (especially unknown words).

We will go back to having 5 vocabulary words this week. Be sure to study and utilize the slides that will be posted on Google Classroom tomorrow.

Homework: Vocab quiz on Friday! This will include our 2 new Latin bases "rupt" and "tract".

**We make a lot of flash cards every week as a study tool for vocabulary and I am running very low. If anyone has any unused packs of index cards at home that they are willing to donate, I would be so appreciative!

MATH: MRS. BENNETT

This week in Math class we are working on our next chapter- Interpret and Solve Problem Situations. Students will explain how multiplication and division can be used to solve the same problem. They will also demonstrate different ways to write multiplication and division equations to help solve comparison problems. Students will create their own comparison word problem that use multiplication and another comparison scenario that uses division to solve. Students will use bar models to represent their scenario.
