WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

LA: MRS. PHELPS

This week we will be taking the Reading MAP test Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Anyone who needs more time can finish up on Friday. Students will have about 40 minutes each day to work on completing the test. Monday we will take time to remember 9/11 and reflect on the impact it had on our country in the following days and years. In our spare time after MAP testing we will be learning new vocabulary words. The words this week will be coming directly from the Profile of a Graduate. The goal is to familiarize the students with the language and vocabulary so we can begin adding artifacts to our folders with a strong understanding of what each trait means.

HOMEWORK: No reading log this week due to MAP testing!

**Vocabulary quiz Friday- study flash cards (5 words)

MATH: MRS. BENNETT

This week in Math class we will work on using place-value understanding to round whole numbers through 1,000,000 and estimate. Students will use open number lines and label the benchmarks for the number they are rounding. Students will then identify the midpoint, which will allow them to see if the number they are rounding is greater or less than the midpoint and which benchmark it is closer to.

Homework:

9/11 SS #13

9/12 SS #14

9/13 SS #15

9/14- SS #16

9/15- SS Quiz #4

SOCIAL STUDIES: MRS. CRUSH

We will continue our unit of Geography of the United States. Students will focus on the Northeast Region first.  They will learn about the land, climate, waterways, and landmarks in the Northeast.  Then, they will each choose a landmark to research and present. This project will be completed during class and the rubric will be shared when we begin our project.

HW: Northeast States + Capitals Test on Wednesday, September 13.

*Students will be given a blank map and will be asked to label the state capital + state in the correct location. This is only for the Northeast Region. Maps (blank and labeled) are located on Google Classroom. There are also flashcards that can be printed out.

On Monday, we will have a discussion about September 11. We will focus on the heroes and why we remember September 11.

RELIGION: MRS CRUSH

We will continue Chapter 1, "God's Loving Plan," in our Word of Life workbooks. In this chapter, students will discuss how to let the good things of this world lead them to God, reflect on how they will call upon God and pray to Him, learn that God is the source of all truth, discuss how to respond to those who seek to deceive us about the truths that come from God, discuss how to respond to God's invitation to communion, identify that God freely created us out of His own goodness to share His love with us, discuss practical ways to discover the truth, and identify that knowing and loving God is the only thing that can make us truly happy.

Open Book Test: Tuesday, September 19 on Chapter 1, "God's Loving Plan." pg 3-14. (Study highlighted word(s), bold vocabulary words, Chapter 1 Review, activities, or any drawings inside their workbook).
