WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

LA: MRS. PHELPS

This week students will be expected to have their 2nd drafts of their opinion writing piece turned in and 3 images submitted on google classroom so I can print them out. Big THANK YOU to any parents who helped their child kick it into high gear last week and got those 1st drafts completed. Please keep in mind that your child may need check-ins from you, as well as me, on projects like this. I think when they are given in-class time to work on something, they do not feel the same sense of urgency to get things completed. **The homework below should always be written in their agendas.** My hope is that students will even start designing their articles and writing the final drafts this week so we can wrap up next week!

In Morphology, we will be adding 2 new suffixes (-est meaning most and -er meaning more). Last week, we learned that -er can mean "one who" but as a comparative suffix, -er can also mean more.  After this week, we will not add any more morphemes to our cards until after Christmas break!

No vocab for the next two weeks! I want to be able to dedicate more class time to our writing project and since this may require homework for some; I have decided it is best to resume vocabulary after break. We will play some fun review games that include our most challenging words from previous weeks.

Homework: Complete 2nd draft of opinion piece (at least 5 paragraphs) and 3 images submitted on Google Classroom by Friday

The cereal drive was a huge success!

A big thanks to everyone who donated cereal to the Dare to Care Cereal Drive. Our class donated 95 boxes total! The cereal box domino event was a huge success and was featured on WDRB news! Our school brought in a total of 789 boxes in all. Thank you again for all your support!

MATH: MRS. BENNETT

This week in Math class we will continue working on our Project Based Learning activity. Students are learning how to measure angles by dividing a circle into each parts and then divide the 360 degrees  into the number of parts in the circle, to find the measure of each angle. We will then progress to using a protractor to measure angles precisely. Students will begin to design their own constellation that represents their name using a coordinate grid. Students will measure the angles represented in their designs using a protractor as well as the length of each line to the nearest quarter inch. We will then use Tinker Cad to design create a 3D representation that can be 3D printed.

Homework:

12/4- SS #57

12/5- SS #58

12/6- SS #59

12/7- SS #60

12/8- SS Quiz #15

Here are some questions you can ask your student at home:

SOCIAL STUDIES: MRS. CRUSH

We will continue our unit of Geography of the United States. Students will focus on the Southeast Region.  They will learn about the land, climate, waterways, and landmarks in the Southeast.  Students will have a similar landmark project as they did for the Southeast region. We will be completing their presentations this week. We will then take a break from our United States regions and work on our Kentucky Counties Project. This is a research project the students will be working on in both Technology and Social Studies throughout the school year.

RELIGION: MRS CRUSH

We will focus on the liturgical season of Advent for the next few weeks before Christmas. Students will know that Saint Jogn the Baptist was the final prophet who prepared the way for the Messiah, understand that prophets in the Old Testament foretold of Saint John the Baptist's life and work, and will know how the traditions of the Advent calendar and Las Posadas help us prepare our hearts during the Advent season.

HW: Student Led Prayer: Praise due Tuesday, December 12. *Sharing with students on 12/5.

2nd Trimester Service Hours + Reflection due Wednesday, Feb. 14
