Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

This week in LA we will begin the process of making informational magazines on the students' topic of choice. These magazines will focus on the following text structures; cause/effect, compare/contrast, description, problem/solution, and order/sequence.

This week students will choose their topic for their informational magazines. Their topic can be anything that interests them that they want to inform others about. They will do some research on their topic on a student-safe search engine, kiddle.co, and begin organizing their information into different graphic organizers. This week, this will all be in class work but you may expect some homework on this project in the weeks to come.

In Morphology, we will be adding 1 new suffix (-er/-or meaning one who or that which). For example, a teacher is "one who teaches" and a painter is "one who paints".

Homework: Study for vocabulary quiz and new morphology concept

Math-Mrs. Bennett

This week in math class we are starting a new module- Understand Perimeter. Students will explain how to find the perimeter of a polygon using a ruler to measure in inches and centimeters. We will start to design a Gingerbread House blueprint! Students will have to calculate the area and perimeter of their gingerbread blueprints and answer the Essential Question: How can I design a gingerbread house that doesn't exceed 342 square centimeters and has a perimeter of less than 125 cm?

*Before Christmas Break, we will bring our blueprints to life by our designs using graham crackers and candy! Below is a signup genius link. If you are able, please sign up to bring an item or two! I need all items by  Monday 12/18.*

These videos are made by me, so you can see exactly how I am teaching a skill in class. Please check these out and use them as needed. I will be adding new videos throughout the year!*

Social Studies- Mrs. Crush

In Social Studies, we will continue our unit on Communities. In the first part, the students will learn about physical characteristics of communities, past and present. We will look at several maps of Louisville from when it first started until present day. We will then focus on the physical characteristics of our community, comparing communities, adapting to the physical environment, and mapping natural physical features.

Religion- Mrs. Crush

We will complete Chapter 4, "The Human Person," in their Word of Life workbooks. The students will be able to understand that man and woman were created in the image and likeness of God, that our souls are rational and give us the ability to think, choose, and love, and know that each person has immense dignity because he is created in the image and likeness of God.
