WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

LA: MRS. PHELPS

Hooray for finishing MAP testing!!! These will provide us with one good data point to discuss during conferences and great information to guide my next steps in teaching comprehension and language skills.

Our comprehension skill of the week will continue to be finding theme based on the key details in the text. We will use our learned strategy (somebody, wanted, but, so, then) to summarize a text . This week we will apply this skill to fiction and non-fiction texts. Using text evidence to support our theme is the main goal. Proving what we know or think based on our reading is when we see true comprehension happening.

In class, we are now doing morphology every day of the week and building a card set of prefixes, suffixes, Greek bases and Latin bases. We have started something called the "3 part drill" that we do 3 times a week. It involves auditory, visual and kinesthetic ways to review and learn morphemes.

Homework: Study for Vocabulary quiz on Friday!

(Reminder: no reading logs!)

MATH: MRS. BENNETT

This week in math class students will Use the standard algorithm to add whole numbers and assess reasonableness using mental math and estimates. We will discuss how to find an estimate that will provide a target number by rounding to the one of the highest place values position. Students will then draw a bar model for a comparison problem. I can write an equation and use addition or subtraction to find the unknown number in the bar model.

Homework:

9/25 SS #21

9/26 SS #22

9/27 SS #23

9/28- SS #24 (the practice quiz will be posted to Google Classroom- optional)

9/29- SS Quiz #6

SOCIAL STUDIES: MRS. CRUSH

We will continue our unit of Geography of the United States. Students will focus on the Northeast Region first.  They will learn about the land, climate, waterways, and landmarks in the Northeast.  Students have been busy researching and creating their Google Slides to present their landmark projects this week.

RELIGION: MRS CRUSH

We will begin Chapter 2, "Faith, Reason, and the Eternal Law," in our Word of Life workbooks. In this chapter, students will know that the eternal law is God's divine plan of love for all creation, realize that by following God's moral laws, they can live with true happiness, realize that by exploring the world and asking questions, they can understand the natural law, and understand that faith and reason are not opposed to each other because both came from God.
