WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

This week, students will start writing final drafts and designing and putting together their articles on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. I look forward to seeing completed pieces as the week progresses. Last week, they worked on completing a check list of tasks so they would be ready to roll this week!

In small groups, we are currently learning a variety of spelling rules. Many of the spelling rules learned thus far, are based off of the 1-1-1 rule. This means a word has one syllable, one short vowel, and one (specific) consonant sound at the end. We have been learning about this so students know when to use the -dge in words like 'judge' and when to double final consonants when adding suffixes that begin with a vowel like -ing, -est, -er, and -ed.

No vocabulary or new morphology concept this week!

Homework:  Opinion Article on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch complete!!!

Math: Mrs. Bennett

This is the link to the study guide. Students do have access on Google Classroom as well. On Google Classroom students have editing access.

Here are some example questions you can ask your student:

Social Studies: Mrs. Crush

We will continue to talk about Government Owned Land in the United States. Does this benefit us or hurt us? They students are looking at the percentages of government owned land for state to state. They will compare and research whether they believe government owned land benefit or hurts us and back it up with evidence.

Religion: Mrs. Crush

We will continue our lesson on the Season of Advent,  in our Word of Life workbooks. In this liturgical season, students will learn that Jesus taught us to prepare for His Second Coming by keeping watch and praying, that the liturgical actions of the Church during Advent fill us with anticipation for the fullness and joy of Christmas, and learn the significance of the "O Antiphons." In class, students will be assigned a feast day during Advent to research and present to the class. They will be creating a wreath that is decorated with objects, colors, and symbols that present key aspects of the feast day they have researched.

Advent Celebration Research due Thursday, December 14.
