WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

LA: MRS. PHELPS

April 8th- April 19th

We are learning figurative language through poetry. I am excited to start using poetry to teach about ways poets and writers can use specific language to help portray feelings and paint pictures in the mind of the reader. As a kid, I loved to read Shel Silverstein books and write my own poetry. We will begin devoting time to each type of figurative language (imagery, personification, simile, metaphor, idiom, onomatopoeia, alliteration, and hyperbole) and will also be discussing common characteristics of poetry, such as, form, rhyme, meter, etc.

Please enjoy the photos below of the 4th graders, Wonder inspired, art work. These will be hanging up at school for awhile and then they will be sent home.

Homework: Figurative Language Quiz- Friday, April 19th

MATH: MRS. BENNETT

Welcome Back! I hope you had a lovely break! We will get back into routine this week and learn our final strategy for comparing fractions. Students have learned to use same sized parts, same number of parts, compare fractions using benchmarks (1/2, 1), and closeness  to 1/2 or 1. This week we will look at situations where we can't apply any of these strategies. Students will learn how to rewrite a pair of fractions with a common denominator in order to compare them.

We will be finishing up our chapter on Fraction Equivalence and Comparison and will be ready to take a test in the next week to so. MAP testing begins next week, so the test will tentatively be the week of 4/22 - 4/26.

Homework:

Students need to complete two IXL's from their Math Skill Plan to 100%. Students will be given class time to work on their IXL's and can always come ask for support if they are having trouble with the skills on their plan! Both Math IXL's will be due Friday 4/12.

SOCIAL STUDIES: MRS. CRUSH

Last week, the students were looking at different artifacts that are present at the Kentucky State Museum that land surveyors would have used on the frontier life. We are going to learn more about our state of Kentucky to better prepare before our trip to the Kentucky State Capital.

RELIGION: MRS CRUSH

We are completing our Saints Madness tournament! During each class, the students learn and watch the students' iMovies of at most eight saints and then answer questions about the saints.
