Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

This week, the 3rd grade class will be learning 5 types of figurative language. We will then analyze the lyrics to 4 key songs in the Disney movie, Encanto. These songs are FULL of figurative language (and also, AMAZING). We will also take time to review all of the morphemes we have learned this year in morphology!

Homework: No homework (20 minutes of independent reading is ALWAYS encouraged)

Math-Mrs. Bennett

This week in Math class students will start to work on understanding fraction equivalency. Students will explore the idea that an amount can be worth the same, but decomposed in different ways. We will use our knowledge of time and money to help us understand. Students know that a dime is worh the same amount of 2 nickels and so on. This will help students understand that a 1/2 is the same as 3/6, just broken differently. They will use models and numberlines to visualize this concept.

*I will not be at school this week because I am chaperoning the 8th grade trip to the Grand Canyon. I will try to check my email at least once a day, but may not always have service or time. If there is something you need answered promptly, please contact Mrs. Crush or Mrs. Phelps and they can call/text me. The sub has everything to run math class as usual! Please utilize Google Classroom in my absence.*

We will complete Chapter 9, "Jesus and the Kingdom of God" in our Word of Life workbooks.  In this chapter, students will begin to understand that we must be baptized to enter into communion with God, recognize that Jesus came to establish the Kingdom of God-the reign, or rule, of God, begin to grasp that only by accepting God's graces can they enter the Kingdom of God, and know that Jesus founded the Church as the beginning of the Kingdom of God on earth.
