Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

Last week was a great start to our new daily routine! Students have done a great job navigating their schedules and are working on going to all classes prepared. In Language Arts, students will take morphology assessments with the focus on learning their prior knowledge of prefixes and suffixes. This is for me to gauge where they are to help guide my instruction. Morphology practice/instruction will be a part of our daily routine in a couple weeks. We will watch some videos explaining the history of the English language to help set the stage for all of the work we will do with spelling and morphology! We will continue working on our comprehension skill, using text evidence to ask and answer questions before during and after reading. Students learned the difference between thick and thin questions and how they can deepen our understanding of characters and the story in general. Last week we kept our focus on fiction texts so we will mix in non-fiction this week.

HOMEWORK: You should be reading at least 20 minutes a night. You may keep track of this in your agenda (there is a yellow box for tracking minutes read). On Monday, the reading log for this week will post on google classroom.  It is a google form that should be completed every Thursday (due Friday) on Google Classroom. This week the task will focus on asking and answering questions.

Math-Mrs. Bennett

This week in Math class, we are starting to work on our first chapter- Understand Multiplicaiton. Students will use concrete and visual models to represent and solve problems when you know the number of equal groups and the number of objects in each group. Students will use prior knowledge of addition to explain how multiplication and addition are similar and how they are different.

Homework:

Students should complete one SS lesson a night. The assigned lessons are listed below. Students should take their books home and bring them back to school each day. We will check our lessons every Friday, so students have the opportunity to ask questions and review problems before taking the quiz. The quiz questions correspond to the homework, which is why students should take their time when completing a lesson and have an adult check over their work. Each quiz is 7 questions and will be a grade in Rediker.

Religion- Mrs. Crush

We will continue Chapter 1, "The Invitation to Communion," in our Word of Life workbooks. In this chapter, students will identify what it means to be in communion with God, discuss how God speaks to them in the Bible, identify that Jesus is the Word of God, who gently knocks at the door of their hearts, discuss how to put God first in their lives, identify that our character is the kind of person we are and that virtues are the part of our character that enables us to do what is good with ease and joy, discuss how God's plan in our lives is to be in communion with God so that we can live lives of virtue, identify the themes of the Old and New Testament, and locate Scripture verses in the Bible.
