WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

This week students will be expected to have their 2nd drafts of their opinion writing piece turned in and 3 images submitted on google classroom so I can print them out. Big THANK YOU to any parents who helped their child kick it into high gear last week and got those 1st drafts completed. Please keep in mind that your child may need check-ins from you, as well as me, on projects like this. I think when they are given in-class time to work on something, they do not feel the same sense of urgency to get things completed. My hope is that students will even start designing their articles and writing the final drafts this week so we can wrap up next week!

In Morphology, we will be adding 2 new suffixes (-est meaning most and -er meaning more). Last week, we learned that -er can mean "one who" but as a comparative suffix, -er can also mean more.  After this week, we will not add any more morphemes to our cards until after Christmas break!

No vocab for the next two weeks! I want to be able to dedicate more class time to our writing project and since this may require homework for some; I have decided it is best to resume vocabulary after break. We will play some fun review games that include our most challenging words from previous weeks.

Homework:  **The homework below should always be written in their agendas.**

Complete 2nd draft of opinion piece (at least 5 paragraphs) and 3 images submitted on Google Classroom by Friday

Math: Mrs. Bennett

This week in math class, students are learning how to round decimals to the nearest whole number, tenth, and hundredth. Students will use an open number line and label the end points with the multiples the number is in between. Then students will identify the midpoint. This will allow them to see which multiple our number is closest too according to the midpoint. We are wrapping up our chapter on decimal place value. We will be ready to take a test next week. Students will have a study guide on Google Classroom and time on class to review. The test will cover the following skills:

This is the link to the study guide. Students do have access on Google Classroom as well. On Google Classroom students have editing access.

12/7- SS #60

12/8- SS Quiz #15

Here are some example questions you can ask your student:

Social Studies: Mrs. Crush

We will complete our unit on the Aztec Empire. Each student has been assigned a topic to research and become an expert. The following categories they will become experts are Aztec Daily Life, Aztec Government and Empire, Aztec Gods and Mythology, Aztec Society, Tenochtilan, Spanish Conquest, Aztec Art, and Hernan Cortes. They will be responsible to research answer questions and create a presentation with another classmate. This will be completed during our class time. If students are unable to finish in class, they will be asked to complete for homework.

Religion: Mrs. Crush

We will continue our lesson on the Season of Advent,  in our Word of Life workbooks. In this liturgical season, students will learn that Jesus taught us to prepare for His Second Coming by keeping watch and praying, that the liturgical actions of the Church during Advent fill us with anticipation for the fullness and joy of Christmas, and learn the significance of the "O Antiphons." In class, students will be assigned a feast day during Advent to research and present to the class. They will be creating a wreath that is decorated with objects, colors, and symbols that present key aspects of the feast day they have researched.
