Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

We are finally back to a full 5 day week! This means we get to jump back into all parts of our LA routine. For comprehension, this week we are wrapping up finding main idea and key details in non-fiction texts and this will take us into our first bigger writing assignment. Students will be researching a topic and writing an informative piece.

In Morphology, we will be adding two new Latin bases to the morphology wall: "rupt", meaning to burst or break and "tract", meaning to pull or draw.  I am excited to get into the Greek and Latin bases over next few weeks. We will finally be able to see the bigger picture as we learn more morphemes and discover how essential they are to our understanding of the texts we read (especially unknown words).

We will go back to having 5 vocabulary words this week. Be sure to study and utilize the slides that will be posted on Google Classroom tomorrow.

Homework: Vocab quiz on Friday! This will include our 2 new Latin bases "rupt" and "tract".

**We make a lot of flash cards every week as a study tool for vocabulary and I am running very low. If anyone has any unused packs of index cards at home that they are willing to donate, I would be so appreciative!

Math-Mrs. Bennett

This week in Math class, we are wrapping up our chapter on understanding area. Students will learn how to break apart a composite figure into smaller rectangles, and then add the areas together to find the area of combined figure. We will also spend time preparing for the chapter test on Friday. There is a study guide posted to Google Classroom to help students study. I have also posted some Kahoot/Blooket links. The test will cover the following skills:

Social Studies- Mrs. Crush

In Social Studies, students have been using their Map Skills to answer questions using Maps and Map Keys. Students will work in small groups in practing their skills. There will be a short assessment next Friday, October 27 and they will receive a classwork grade.

The third graders did an awesome job on their Barefoot Islands! I'm not quite finished grading them, but you may see images of their islands below.

Religion- Mrs. Crush

With October being the Month of the Rosary, students will have the opportunity to pray the Rosary altogether as a class. We will also describe and name the parts of the Rosary and the mysteries of the Rosary. We were able to pray the Sorrowful mysteries this past Friday.

We will also begin Chapter 3, "Creation: God's Gift of Love," in their Word of Life workbooks. The students will be able to understand that God is the Creator of all things--visible and invisible, to know that out of love for us, God created a good and ordered world, understand the nature and role of angels, and that God entrusted us to care for His creation.
