WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

LA: MRS. PHELPS

This week, students will start writing final drafts and designing and putting together their articles on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. I look forward to seeing completed pieces as the week progresses. Last week, they worked on completing a check list of tasks so they would be ready to roll this week!

In small groups, we are currently learning a variety of spelling rules. Many of the spelling rules learned thus far, are based off of the 1-1-1 rule. This means a word has one syllable, one short vowel, and one (specific) consonant sound at the end. We have been learning about this so students know when to use the -dge in words like 'judge' and when to double final consonants when adding suffixes that begin with a vowel like -ing, -est, -er, and -ed.

No vocabulary or new morphology concept this week!

Homework:  Opinion Article on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch complete!!!

opinion writing assignment

MATH: MRS. BENNETT

This week in Math class students are practicing how to measure an angle with a protractor. Students learned about some of the most famous constellations such as Draco, Orion, Ursa Major, Cassieopia, and more. Students will use their protractor to measure the angles within these different constellations. Students will begin to design their own constellation that represents their name using a coordinate grid. Students will measure the angles represented in their constellaitons as well as the length of each line to the nearest quarter inch. We will then use Tinker Cad to design create a 3D representation that can be 3D printed.

Homework:

Here are some questions you can ask your student at home:

SOCIAL STUDIES: MRS. CRUSH

We are taking a break from our United States regions and work on our Famous Kentuckian Project. We will first define the word significant and use Frida Kahlo as an example.  The students will then be paired with another classmate to research significant events that have happened in their famous Kentuckian's life. We will then create mobile timelines from the significant events found.

RELIGION: MRS CRUSH

We will continue to focus on the liturgical season of Advent for the next few weeks before Christmas. Students will know that Saint John the Baptist was the final prophet who prepared the way for the Messiah, understand that prophets in the Old Testament foretold of Saint John the Baptist's life and work, and will know how the traditions of the Advent calendar and Las Posadas help us prepare our hearts during the Advent season.

HW: Student Led Prayer: Praise due Tuesday, December 12. *Sharing with students on 12/5.

2nd Trimester Service Hours + Reflection due Wednesday, Feb. 14
