Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

We have a 4 day week due to our Monday field trip to My Old Kentucky Home. Our learning will be centered on Earth Day, which is April 22nd. We will read fiction and non-fiction texts on the topic and hopefully come away with some inspiration to take care of the earth God gave us and work on comprehension skills as well.

Grammar: Each week, our morning work will be focused on a different part of speech. Last week, we practiced identifying conjunctions and knowing when to use specific ones. This week we focus on interjections.

Homework: No homework (20 minutes of independent reading is ALWAYS encouraged)

Math-Mrs. Bennett

This week in math class we will wrap up our unit on Fractions as Numbers. Students will do a little more work with mixed numbers and fractions. Students will use measuring cups to explore how 1 1/2 cups could also be measured using 3 one-half scoops. Students will look at recipes and determine which size measuring cup to use and how many times it would need to be filled to make the mixed numbers shown in the recipe. We will also look at fractions/mixed numbers in measurement!

We will finish up our chapter on Fractions as Numbers and will be ready to take a test next week to so. There will be a study guide posted ahead of time to help students prepare!

Homework:

4/15 - SS #105

4/16- SS #106

4/17- SS #107

4/18- SS #108

4/19- SS Quiz

Social Studies- Mrs. Crush

In Social Studies, the students will continue part 2: "The Free Enterprise System." In part 2, the students will act as both producers and consumers. They will work in small groups to create a company, produce a product, and manage a store. They will also get to shop at the other stores created. Afterward, the "companies" will reflect on their product and profit.

Religion- Mrs. Crush

We will begin Chapter 6, "God's Chosen People" in our Word of Life workbooks.  Students will be asked to define the four vocabulary words on notebook paper. This will be completed during Monday's class. If not completed during class, it may be homework. In this chapter, students will understand that once our communion with God was broken, sin grew in the world, have a basic understanding of what foreshadowing means and how certain Old Testament events and people relate to Christ, the sacraments, and the Church, to understand that a covenant is a sacred agreement that forms a bond between God and His people, and to understand that God chose the descendants of Abraham to become His Chose People as part of His plan to bring all people into communion with Him.

Science- Ms. Jackel

World Language- Mrs.. Dunlap

On Saturday, my son, Garnett, and I went to Louisville Metro Animal Shelter to drop off our persuasive writing posters in hopes to help some homeless dogs find their forever homes!

Some posters were hung while I was still at the shelter and I was able to take pictures. Other dogs were currently in foster homes. I chose to make my example poster for a dog named Olive and while I was there, she was adopted!!!
