Language Arts- Mrs. Phelps

This week in LA we will continue our journey of making informational magazines on the students' topic of choice. These magazines will focus on the following text structures:

I will be laying the groundwork and introducing/reviewing the text structures with the class. This assignment will take us some time and there may be times in the future that students do have homework pertaining to this specific writing project, so please keep up with the newsletter and check agendas! When we begin writing, students will receive a rubric and guidelines for the assignment. Due to Halloween and the EMS field trip last week we only had two days of instruction so we will be working on the same standards/skills this week.

In Morphology, we will be adding 5 NEW GREEK BASES (graph, gram, phon, photo, tele). These are the first of the Greek bases we will be learning and they are taught in groups. Since we typically only learn 1-2 new morphemes, I am considering these their vocabulary words for the week. They will still have flash cards and slides to use for studying but the quiz will look different. I will use class time this week to prepare them so they know what to expect.

Homework: Study 5 new Greek bases for a quiz on Friday

Math-Mrs. Bennett

This week in Math class students will learn how to use the Distributive Property to break apart factors and find products in which one factor is a multiple of 10. Students will create large arrays and then break the array into two smaller arrays, so they can rely on their basic math facts. After finding the total of each array, students will then add the products together.

Homework:

11/6- SS #45

11/7- SS #46

11/8- SS #47

11/9- SS #48

 11/10- SS Quiz

Here are some example questions students will work on this week!

Social Studies- Mrs. Crush

In Social Studies, we will begin our unit on Communities. In the first part, the students will learn about physical characteristics of communities, past and present. We will look at several maps of Louisville from when it first started until present day. We will then focus on the physical characteristics of our community, comparing communities, adapting to the physical environment, and mapping natural physical features.

The third graders did an awesome job on their Barefoot Islands! You may see images of their islands below.  *Please be on the lookout in their Take Home Folders on Wednesday, their projects + rubrics will be found in there.

Religion- Mrs. Crush

We will continue Chapter 3, "Creation: God's Gift of Love," in their Word of Life workbooks. The students will be able to understand that God is the Creator of all things--visible and invisible, to know that out of love for us, God created a good and ordered world, understand the nature and role of angels, and that God entrusted us to care for His creation. *Below are images of the students enjoying nature last Friday. This connected to our lesson appreciating God's creation.
