Friday January 16
I finally decided to not push through today... :-(
Please spend your class time preparing for your mid-term exam. See you next week. Stay warm!
The English 11 General exams will both be on Friday January 23. 1Black will be held from 7:40-9:15 and 3Black will be held from 9:25-11:00.
Vocabulary - matching - worth 30% of your mid-term
1) 20 Quack vocabulary words, from list 1. This part of the mid-term is worth 15% of the total score.
2) The literary terms and academic vocabulary associated with Unit 1. Here is a Quizlet set to use for studying. This part of the mid-term is worth 15% of the total score.
American Dream motivation discussion - worth 70% of your mid-term
3) Be prepared to present the following, via discussion:
Explain your own version of The American Dream with specific details. We will want to know more than "I want to be happy." What will make you happy? A house, a family, a stable job? How will make these dreams a reality?
Next, choose a minimum of three pieces of literature, art, film, drama and/or music (or an aphorism) that will help you stay committed to your version of The American Dream. Please present to the class what specific aspect of the literature / art / film / theater production / song / aphorism you can picture using as a motivator on days when you are not feeling inspired to be a productive member of society. Your presentation should answer the question: "How does this motivator connect to (student's) version of The American Dream?"
The discussion will be scored on the details of your future American Dream, as well as the analysis of the language of your "motivators."
