Photo Essays are due today!! They count 4x in the grade book.

We:

1. read and marked up the Learning Focus on page 44;
2. had a discussion about various aspects of culture and cultural elements; (see image below that lists the elements of culture and the other image that provides two definitions of culture);
3. started 1.14 - What is Cultural Criticism? (pp. 45-47)

Homework:

1. read Speaking with Hands, marking it up for Cultural Criticism (refer back to the Learning Focus, intro to 1.14, or page 342 if you need to be reminded about what Cultural Criticism is);
2. do the QuickWrite on page 47;
3. draft #1 of your college essay

find out if you have a specific prompt from the college you're applying to, and write a first draft. This will vary from student to student. If you're not applying to college right now, this essay is still a requirement.

^^Two possible definitions of culture:

Def. 1) The way people live(d), depending on where and when they live(d).

Def. 2) The shared beliefs, customs, practices, and social behavior within a group of people.
